Masood U.

A PHP nerd, Masood loves to code and is always learning more. Katie, Masood’s Client Relations Manager, told us: “Masood is an extremely dedicated and hard working developer. His patience and positive attitude make him an asset to our team! He is also not afraid to go the extra mile to ensure that his client gets the most efficient and functional website. Thank you for all of your hard work Masood and congratulations!”
Equally proud of him was his Team Lead, Khurram K, who said: “Masood is a great guy with a positive attitude and a great work ethic. He has an immense drive to learn new stuff and implement those into his projects. His excellent knowledge of WordPress makes him stand out of the crowd which is proven from his outstanding work.”

Let’s find out some more about this developer’s strengths, interests, and loves.

Tell us a little about yourself Masood! Do you have any hobbies or interests?

I like to spend time with my family and read and explore new technologies.
What do you like to do with your family in your free time?
I enjoy my time with my daughter especially. She is two years old and is very attached to me.
How long have you been with our company?
I’ve been here approximately eight months and I’ve really enjoyed working here. I’ve learned a lot about new tools and technologies, and this also improved my interpersonal and professional skills. Working directly with clients is a rare opportunity in Pakistan, and apart from this, when you’re in R&D you have time to polish your skills and improve yourself.
What got you started in the IT field?
I’ve been interested in computers since my childhood, and after 12 years of education I decided to select Computer Science as my major. The more I learned about the field, the more it attracted me. Even now I’m a learner and explorer of the IT field.
How many total years of experience do you have?
I have four years of experience in PHP development, and six months experience with .NET. I’m more passionate about open source technologies, so I didn’t like .NET development.
Alright, so if you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Interesting question! I like spiderman and would like to climb on buildings during my spare time or my breaks.
Have you ever traveled anywhere interesting?
Yes, I don’t ever forget about our last company trip to Kalam in the Swat Valley. We hiked for part of the trip, and though we failed to reach our target, I really enjoyed it. If I could go anywhere in the world, I’d like to go to Switzerland to visit my father’s grave, or to go to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower.
What are three things that you never leave your house without?
I never leave my beloved iPhone, wallet, and keys.
Do you have any nicknames your friends call you?
I had never had a nickname until I joined my last company, where they called me “Sam.” I was working on a team where one of the developers was named Sam, and we were very good friends. When he left the company, my colleagues started calling me Sam. I was uncomfortable with it at first when they called me that, but now I’m used to the nickname. Nicknames are fun when they’re awarded by someone and have memories associated with it.
Tell us about your experiences working in our company!
I have learned a great deal here while working with my first client. But the best thing here is the culture, everyone is so supportive, especially the Team Leads and Client Relations Managers.
What is your favorite framework to work with and why?
My favorite framework is either Laravel or ROR. I hope to one day work with these frameworks here.
Why are those your favorites?
They have great performance, updated code, the ability to handle large applications, and there’s more opportunity when I work with these frameworks.
What is a typical “day in your work life” like for you?
When I start my shift, I arrange my tasks and divide them up by importance if necessary. It’s important to do that in order to make your day productive, and also you should look over yesterday’s work and remember where you left off. Sometimes it takes just a few minutes to charge up and develop interest in a task. Most importantly though is to understand the task, and if I have any issues or questions and my client is away then I feel very uncomfortable. Also, coming in early will also give a good impression of your routine work.
What do you feel are the most important skills and abilities to remain successful in this career?
If you want to stay successful in the IT industry, you need to stay productive, be up to date with the latest tools and technologies, and be an active learner.
Who would you want with you if you were on a deserted island?
I would take my wife with me, without any electronics. I’d like to follow the example of Matt Cutts.
Do you like sports?
Yes, I like football, but I am an awful player. I hope to one day improve my football skills. Mostly I love watching cricket and football matches, but every time I watch a match between India and Pakistan, India wins. So now I try not to watch those.
What is the last movie you watched?
I love to watch English action movies, and I never miss the weekend movies at the office. The last movie I watched was The Gift.
If you could play a part in a movie, what sort of character would you want to play?
I would want to be an action hero like Jackie Chan.

He describes himself as a silent and reserved guy by nature, and his friends have told him he’s enthusiastic and a quick learner. We’re glad we get to work with Masood, and hope for more years to come!
